About Us The Saskatoon Police Association can trace it’s roots back to 1920 and the following is the wording from an article in the Saskatoon Star regarding the formation of the Saskatoon City Police Association: JANUARY 10, 1920 The Saskatoon Star. POLICE FORM ASSOCIATION FOR HARMONY ___ Mutual Benefit Organisation Embraces All Members of the Force HAS APPROVAL OF COMMISSION ___ SERGT. ALBERT MILNE IS PRESIDENT, SERGT. GEO. SHORT VICE-PRESIDENT As a result of the formation of the Saskatoon police association a mutual benefit organisation which embraces all members of the force below the chief constable and inspector of detectives, the department is now working in utmost harmony with the board of police commissioners and satisfactory working conditions have been obtained. When the scheme was presented to the police commission, that body was enthusiastic in its approval and saw in the movement a means to gain closer operation between the policemen and their officers. Today the association is flourishing and all members are well satisfied with betterment in conditions which has been obtained directly as a result of the organisation. Following are the officers who will hold their positions for 1920: President, Sergt. Albert Milne; vice-president, Patrol Sergeant George Short, secretary-treasurer, Patrolman Marc Bowman; executive committee, Detective T. A. McClelland, Patrol Sergt. Wm. Petrie, Sergt. Joseph Mackie, Patrol Sergt. Geo. Short, and Patrolman Hadden. Meetings are held the first Sunday of each month at police headquarters, when the members talk over their differences and map out recommendations to be laid before the chief of police and the commissioners. Chief G. M. Donald said the association was filling a long felt want in the local police circles. It was a means to draw the men closer to their governors and to make for a better feeling between all branches of the service. The Saskatoon police, he added, were among the best satisfied in Canada, mostly due to the good work accomplished by the association.
