Who We Are

2009 marks the 89th year the Saskatoon Police Association has been in existence.

We are very proud of the role that this Association has played in working with other Police Associations to make working conditions safer and better for Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and Canadian Police Officers.

The Saskatoon Police Association hosted and organized the first ever meeting of Municipal Police Associations from Estevan, Weyburn, Swift Current, Moose Jaw, Regina, North Battleford, Prince Albert and Saskatoon.  This was the first meeting of the group that was to become the Saskatchewan Federation of Police Officers.  Saskatoon’s President, Sgt Hilmer Nordstrum, organized the meeting and two Executive members of the Saskatoon City Police Association personally paid for that first meeting.

Saskatoon was certified as the second Police Association to get involved in the formation of the Western Canadian Police Association.  The Western Canadian Police Association went on to become one of the main groups that would later amalgamate into the Canadian Police Association.

Saskatoon has had two members serve Canadian police officers in the role of President of the Canadian Police Association.

S/Sgt Vic Hein was a long serving President of the Saskatoon Police Association and he was inducted into the Canadian Police Association Hall of Fame as a result of his commitment, hard work and numerous accomplishments on behalf of Saskatoon Police Officers.  Vic is regarded as the main drive behind the creation of one of the best Police Pension plans in Canada.

We are active members of the Saskatchewan Federation of Police Officers and the Canadian Police Association.

Locally, our members provide hundreds and hundreds of hours of volunteer time with service clubs, community associations and youth sports to make Saskatoon a better place, even when we aren’t at work.

Saskatoon Police Association members are involved in raising money for the Crisis Nursery, Cops for Cancer, Juvenile Diabetes Association and each Christmas, they support the Family to Family program to provide a better Christmas for those in need.

The Saskatoon Police Association represents all front line Saskatoon Police Officers from the Rank of Special Constable to Staff Sergeant.  It is our responsibility to serve Saskatoon Police Officers who serve Saskatoon without fear and without favour.
